Muladhara: The Root Chakra is at the base of the spine and deals with basic survival, physical needs, and is the beginning of awareness. It is associated with the adrenal glands, the sense of smell, the bones, and the color red. Disfunctions include osteoarthritis, mental lethargy, and spaciness. Practical goals for the Root Chakra have to do with physical healing and grounding. The associated archetype is the Earth Mother. Svadhisthana: The Sacral Chakra is located in the lower abdomen and is associated with reproductive organs. Naturally, this Chakra deals with sexuality and creative energy. This is the "creative flame" that many artists speak of, and is visualized as the color orange. The Sacral Chakra is the center where feelings of giving and receiving are dealt with. Manipura: The Solar Plexus Chakra is just above the navel, visualized as a glowing ball of yellow light. An unbalanced Manipura Chakra may see those feelings of personal power get out of control and lead to overagressiveness, low self-esteem and a constant need to be in control. Anahata: The Heart Chakra is located in the center of the chest, and is the place where we feel compassion, forgiveness, and acceptance. The gland associated with the Heart Chakra is the thymus, and it is visualized as a ball of green light. Vishuddha: The Throat Chakra is located at the base of the neck, and is the seat of our communication. Naturally, disfuntions include inability to express emotions, blocked creativity, and sore throats. Visuddha is associated with the thyroid, ears, nose, throat, teeth, mouth, and neck. A balanced Throat Chakra involves the ability to accept things the way they are, and to make changes if necessary. Anja: The Third Eye Chakra is located above and between the eyebrows, and deals with a "sixth sense", intution, and wisdom. Sahasrara: The Crown Chakra is home to our pure spirit and is thought of as a thousand-petaled lotus. It is located at the top of the skull, and is likewise assocaited with the cerebral cortex. Some visualize this as a white light, some prefer to imagine purple. Unbalanced Crown Chakra can result in constant exhaustion and depression. The goal in balancing this Chakra is higher spirituality and enlightenment beyond the self.
